Chapter 3

The next morning my alarm clock went off at 6:00 AM. I groaned as I sleepily turned it off and climbed out of bed. I still had the barfy feeling. I brushed my teeth and got dressed. Then I got my backpack and trudged down the stairs. When I got down, I saw dad in the kitchen, he was still in his PJs. I still couldn’t believe he could get up that early. My dad had always been a late sleeper. “Hey Max” He said “You ready?” “Don’t I get breakfast?” I asked. “Yup” Dad replied with a smile “In the car” then he pointed to a plate with a waffle on it. I sighed, picked up the plate and followed him to the car.
When we got to my school, I said goodbye to my dad and got out of the car. As I was walking to the door, I saw Alexa talking to another boy. He was taller and had messy brown hair, brown eyes, and light brown skin. I walked over to her. “Hi” I said. “Oh, hey!” said Alexa “This is Daniel” “Hi” I said, “My names Max” “Hi Max,” said Daniel. His voice cracked a lot. As we walked to class we talked about our favorite movies and TV shows.
At lunch I sat with Alexa, Daniel and a girl named Ella. Ella was pale, short, and curvy, with short blond hair and blue eyes. They were all really nice. We talked about a lot of different things. Ella asked me what it was like to be homeschooled and Daniel asked me why I decided to come to public school when being homeschooled sounded much better. So, I told him. “Tough” He said “Yeah” Alexa and Ella agreed. Ella’s voice was very high pitch, kind of like a bird. it made me smile.
When my dad came to pick me up, I saw todays “embarrassment” of a shirt. A black t-shirt with a horrible dad joke saying “RIP boiled water. You will be mist.” I rolled my eyes, sighed, and got in the car. “What do you think of the shirt?” dad asked “It’s… great dad” I said. I saw my friends come up to the car. “Oh, right” I said. I asked dad if my new friends could come too. He said yes and asked if they were staying for lunch. Alexa said no, but Daniel and Ella said yes. At my house we went to my room and did homework. We didn’t have a lot that day so after we finished, we went outside to play a game. “What should we play?” asked Ella “What about tag?” asked Alexa “Or hide and seek!” said Daniel. I thought for a minute. “I have an idea!” I said, “what if we play night at the museum” “What’s that?” Ella asked. “It’s where you have one person who is “it” and they try to catch people moving, basically when the person who is “it” has their back turned the people can move but, if the it person sees you moving, you’re out.” I explained. “Sounds fun!” they all said. So, we played night at the museum.
But I never could have guessed that it would end so bad.
