“I’m not him, you know. The character from the books. I’m not a hero. I’m not even particularly nice.”
“I know,” I say, but Kane is already gone.
Alone in the room, I turn back to the mirror. Slowly I lower my hand, letting the washcloth drop into the sink. There, on my chest, is the scar, from where I was shot. A puckered oval, barely visible since I got the tattoo. A tattoo in the shape of a rune. A rune for protection. For disguise and deceit. It’s the rune Kane has marked on his own chest.
I shiver when I remember how his hands felt on my skin. Like I was alive again. Do I know that he’s not the character I fell in love with from the books?
Does it matter?”
Storybound is a great example of how we don’t always get to be with the ones we want. As you follow Kane and Eddie/Cupcake, you will see them start to fall in love. Well, at least Kane is. Cupcake has already been in love with him for years. Ever since the first book in her favorite series, The Traveler Chronicles came out. As I read this book I found myself shipping those two so hard. The way Kane started to realize he was falling in love made me smile. And I found myself wishing they would kiss even though it would make it even harder when Cupcake had to go back to her world.
Though romance is not the only aspect of this novel, there is also adventure, humor, and it also made me cry when Kendal sacrificed herself. I was definitely not expecting that this book would make me so emotional when I started it, but here we are.
I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for something with mild romance and a fun adventure. Not to mention the fact that this story is relatable. For age probably 13+ and I’m giving it 5/5😆
