“Letters, photographs, and a journal… All left behind in the harrowing aftermath.”
“When Paige moves from LA to Idaho with her mom and little brother after her parents’ high profile divorce, she expects to completely hate her new life, and the small town doesn’t disappoint.
Worse yet, the drafty old mansion they’ve rented is infested with flies, spiders, and other pests Paige doesn’t want to think about. She chalks it up to her rural surroundings, but it’s hard to ignore the strange things happening around the house, from one can of ravioli becoming a dozen to unreadable words appearing on the walls.
Soon Paige’s little brother begins roaming the house at all hours of the night, and there’s something not right about the downstairs neighbor, who knows a lot more than he’s letting on.
Things only get creepier when she learns about the sinister cult that conducted experimental rituals in the house almost a hundred years earlier.
The more Paige investigates and the deeper she digs, the clearer it all becomes: whatever is in the house, whatever is causing all the strange occurrences, has no intention of backing down without a fight.”
This was not what I was expecting. This book was good, a little slow but a great story. There could’ve (should’ve) been more about the characters. I feel like they were a little blank.
The ending had me really confused. Like… what just happened? I’m contemplating reading the next book in this series, Possession but I’m not sure yet.
This is a really quick read, I finished in one day. The chapters are really short, as they are written to be like diary entries. But the book still has 311 pages.
There were a couple of repeated chapters as in the story, the spirit haunting the house was messing with the electronics, making Paige’s diary repeat some entries. I feel like this may not have been to necessary. I also feel like Paige’s “crush” on her downstairs neighbor Raph is a bit unnecessary.
The story, and plot was fun. I liked that Paige’s feelings were so well expressed. I also liked that there were a lot of plot twists.
This book definitely made me laugh, and it grossed me out several times, when Paige wrote about all the spiders. And the flies.
This book also has a very intriguing cover, that you won’t understand until you read the book. I am still confused about the ending, and curious about what happens next and I read this book over a week ago! In the end, this book was worth a day.
I am giving this one 3.5/5😄 and for age 12+
